Description
Lower Llancayo Farm and its attached outbuildings consist of a farmhouse and outbuildings made from colourwashed rubble stone, topped with graded slate roofs. The farmhouse is built in an L-plan and is two stories high. The front, which has a formal hipped design, features three square upper windows beneath the eaves that were originally 12-pane, along with five ground floor openings that have stone voussoirs and stone sills. There are four 16-pane sash windows, with a door located in the second bay. This door includes a 4-pane overlight and stone voussoirs but is obscured by a later added gabled timber porch. The building also has a stone plinth.
On the eastern end wall, there is a lean-to cart-shed that partially blocks a similar first floor window. The rear of the farmhouse has a wall-face chimney on the left and a lean-to structure. The original building was L-shaped with a short northwest wing. The western end of the farmhouse is blank but continues to the left with a similar square upper window and a large 16-pane sash window with stone voussoirs further left. There is a straight joint connecting to the current house range, which has a continuous roof. This two-story, three-window range features 20th-century windows and a door. The upper floor has two pairs of casements and a triple casement in between, while the ground floor has two triple casements and a door below. The eastern rear has a red brick side-wall stack and a lean-to that covers all but the right end, which has a pair of casements above a triple casement.
A single-storey cowhouse runs to the north, constructed from rubble stone with a graded slate roof. It has three broad windows beneath low eaves, a broad door, two similar windows, another broad door, and three more windows with a door to the left. The windows feature brick sides, and the rear has a short low range extending to the east.
The front range has had its floors removed but is currently undergoing repairs (as of 1999). There are remnants of a 19th-century staircase with a turned newel. Blocked openings on the rear wall suggest the presence of fireplaces, which were also located on the western wall. The building features 19th-century collar trusses with bolted collars.
