Description
Fodwen is a two-storey farmhouse built in rubble stone, with the front and rear elevations whitewashed. It has a slate roof featuring rendered stone end stacks, with the right stack being external. To the left of the main house is a slightly lower range that includes a cart-shed and granary, which is covered with a corrugated asbestos roof.
The front of the house has an asymmetrical arrangement of openings. The entrance is located slightly to the right of the center and features a boarded door. There is a small brick porch with a shallow lean-to slate-covered roof. Flanking the entrance are two-light wooden casement windows with timber lintels, which have been renewed but likely fit the original openings. The upper storey has three narrower two-light casements located under the eaves.
The adjoining range includes a cart-shed opening to the left, which has a timber lintel, and a loft doorway to the right that is accessed by external stairs. There is also a two-light casement window with small-pane iron glazing on the west gable of this range.
At the rear of the house, there is a two-storey wing to the left and a long catslide lean-to to the right, the latter of which is probably from the 20th century. The rear inset doorway, which has a planked door, is located to the right at the end of the wing, and there is a wide 20th-century wooden window in the catslide. On the east side, there is a small window to the right of the external stack and small 20th-century windows on each storey of the wing.
Access to the interior was not available at the time of inspection.
