Description
The Technical College Building is designed in the Tudor Gothic style and constructed from red brick with Portland stone dressings. It features a four-storey entrance tower that has diagonal buttresses, a crenellated parapet with corner pilasters, and stripwork surrounding twin bell-openings. The tower is adorned with large square-headed four-light mullioned and transomed windows, which are set below dripmoulds and have small-pane glazing. The doorframe includes a fine heraldic panel and an inscribed lintel above a four-centred archway, which is decorated with paterae and deep mouldings, as well as trefoils in the spandrels. A flight of steps leads up to the entrance, flanked by parapets that support ironwork lamp standards.
The four-storey ranges extend along the road with a stepped and angled elevation, featuring plain parapets and cross-windows with dripmoulds and small-pane glazing. There is a notable group of brick chimneys with spiral, chevron, and other Tudor mouldings above the parapets.
The eastern flank of the building has a similar architectural treatment and includes a three-window arched bridge that spans the road, connecting to an older building that is not of special interest.
