Description

The Vicarage, dated 1844, is a Tudor-style building located on North Road in Midsomer Norton. It is constructed from limestone rubble and features a weathered string course over the ground floor. The roof is made of modern concrete tiles and has two ranges with coped verges and two saddlestones. The right-hand gable end is adorned with crenellated octagonal chimneys and two sets of diagonal chimney stacks. A tall central gabled break includes a narrow attic light.

On the first floor, there are two mullion and transom windows along with two narrower windows that have dripmoulds and cast iron casements with diamond patterns. Notably, there are three carved stones featuring circles and quadrilobe designs inscribed in a square, which are remnants of a pierced 15th-century parapet that was originally part of the parish church located at Church Square. The ground floor has two windows; the left window has proper casements, while the right window is set on slight corbelling.

A central porch with a Tudor arch is ashlar faced and features blind tracery spandrels and a drip. Above the porch is a shield inscribed with A.D. MDCCCLIV. The door has Gothic panelling with six panels, the upper three of which are glazed with traceried heads, and a similar door is located at the rear. To the left, there is a two-storey wing with two windows, and its east return showcases an excellent reset shell hood from the early 18th century on carved brackets, or a very good copy of it.

Inside, the Vicarage has plain stairs, and the front parlour is highlighted by a Tudor Gothic marble fireplace, similar to one found at Holy Trinity Vicarage on Pow's Hill.
