Description

The building is an early Norman tympanum set into the south-west gable wall of a modern bungalow located at 37 Priory Close in Midsomer Norton. The tympanum is made of Bradstone reconstructed stone, rock-faced lias limestone, and render, with a Redland concrete pantiled roof.

The bungalow is a single-storey structure with a pitched roof and chimney stacks at each gable. It is situated on raised ground, with the main entrance facing south and accessed by a set of stone steps. To the north-east, there is a lower ground-floor double garage.

The front elevation features three bays made of Bradstone reconstructed stone, which include a large picture window, a central entrance door with a glazed front door, and three single-pane modern uPVC windows. The south-eastern elevation has modern uPVC windows, while the rear elevation is rendered and has no windows except for the north-eastern bay, which contains modern uPVC windows.

The south-west elevation is half rendered and half made of rock-faced lias limestone sourced from Stowey Quarry at Clutton. The early Norman tympanum is embedded within the lower third of this elevation.

The interior of the bungalow was not inspected but is believed to include three bedrooms, a lounge, a kitchen, a utility room, a bathroom, and an integral double garage. The modern bungalow itself lacks historical interest, except for the south-west elevation with the early Norman tympanum, which is the only part included in the listing.
