Description

Hillside is a building constructed from brown stone with bathstone dressings and slate roofs, featuring stone chimneys. The main front faces south and has a hipped roof with two stone chimneys on the ridge. It includes a projecting gabled bay with overhanging eaves and a round-headed window. On the first floor, there is a three-light window with strapwork above, linking to a similar ground floor window via strapwork scrolls. The outer bays have a broad three-light mullioned window set at the eaves on the top floor, and on the first floor, there is a three-light mullioned window with a tall keystone and a bracketed sill. The ground floor features a three-light mullioned and transomed window. To the left, there are flat-roofed extensions and fire escapes.

To the right, a belvedere tower has a shallow pyramidal roof with a pinnacle and bracketed eaves. The belvedere stage, made of bathstone, has three round-headed windows on each side with tall keystones. Above, there are two round windows, and below these, a tall round-headed window featuring a heraldic shield and a balcony, supported by sloping buttresses. The east elevation of the tower has a blind panel below a pair of round windows and a niche with a roundel of a lion’s head. To the right of the tower, there is a gable with overhanging eaves, a round-headed window on the second floor, two windows on the first floor, an open porch, and a round-headed entrance doorway with two-leaf doors, along with an additional window to the right.
