Description

Manselton School Attached Block is a 19th-century building featuring an open U-plan design with a symmetrical south front and advanced entrance and stair-tower wings. The structure has three storeys and attics, with eight bays in the center. It is constructed from snecked rubble with bullnosed quoins that have incised angles, complemented by freestone dressings and tiled roofs.

The central section is recessed, flanked by slightly advanced and gabled outer bays that have pedimented tops and a Venetian window treatment on the upper floor, with the keystone extended to act as a gable pilaster. Segmental-headed dormers are present as well. A pedimented and panelled band runs over the first-floor architraves, which feature scrolled aprons, while the ground floor has plain windows. Most windows are cross-windows with small panes and lower sashes. The wings have pedimented doorcases set at splayed angles, polygonal stair turrets topped with pyramidal roofs, and miniature cupolas with finials. There are cornice bands, oculi on the top floor, and an aedicule treatment on the second-floor windows.

The outer porches have massive stone doorcases with pedimented tops supported by scrolled brackets. The splayed five-storey angles have broken pediments and polygonal finials that rise from the third-floor scrolled pediments. The side elevations are twin-gabled, with advanced gabled bays on the outer sides of the simpler north front.

Additionally, there is a small attached lodge block on Cecil Street that is designed in a similar style. This block features a hipped tiled roof with a domed cupola, segmental-headed dormers, and small-pane tripartite sashes. There is a basement entrance beneath a tablet that reads "Manselton School Board SSB."
