Description
The Church of St Michael and All Angels, also known as Manselton Parish Church, is a Grade II listed building featuring a plain, undivided nave and chancel with vestries beneath, a south aisle (which was never built), an organ chamber, and a south porch. It is designed in the Perpendicular Gothic style.
The church has a twin-gabled front facing Manor Road, constructed with coursed rubble facings and Bath stone dressings, topped with slate roofs that have tiled crestings. The gable parapets feature a twin bellcote and a weathervane to the left, above a five-light traceried window, with a three-light window to the south. The building includes a plinth and hoodmouldings, with buttressed side elevations and two-light windows. There is a cross-gable with a three-light window at the east end, which houses the organ chamber, and a high east end featuring a five-light window along with a polygonal stair-tower in the angle.
Inside, the church has a simple layout with a five-bay arcade supported by polygonal piers. There is a blocked north arch that matches the arch leading to the organ chamber on the south side. The ceilings are ribbed and boarded, with paired angle corbels at the entrance to the chancel. The sedilia features foliage spandrels and paterae on the hoodmould. The walls are plain and whitewashed, with rere-arches to the window splays and a two-bay arcade facing the south aisle. The interior also contains a wooden lectern and pulpit.
