Description
The Old House at Delvid Farm is a two-storey house built of rubble masonry, which is partly rendered and whitened. The exterior has been significantly altered and modernized. It features an artificial slate roof with a tile ridge and reduced chimney stacks. At the rear, there are three casement windows, while all the front windows and the door have been modernized. There is an additional bay of brickwork on the south side, and a byre to the north with a sheeted roof.
Inside, the original house retains important vernacular features. The entrance was located in the south gable wall next to the great fireplace, which is now covered by an extension. The fireplace has a roughly chamfered curved bressummer and a brick-lined bread oven to the left. There is a timber settle with a carved side and a charnel box, which is a high-level space for hanging bacon, a feature also found in the West Country. Next to the fireplace, there is a bed recess in an outshut with panelled doors, and a box-bed is situated over the charnel box in the upper storey.
