Description
Ashford is a 19th-century house featuring a central entry plan. It has a service wing, coach house, and stable attached to the south side, along with two large cross wings and other small extensions added to the rear. A conservatory is located on the north side. The original house is constructed of rubble stone, rendered at the front and unrendered at the sides, with painted brick at the rear. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has corniced stone stacks on the main building and brick stacks on the rear wings.
The main facade is three storeys high with a cellar and features a three-window range of Venetian windows on the first and ground floors. The central first-floor staircase window is a single round-arched sash. The second storey has three 3/3 pane cambered-headed sashes positioned just below the corniced eaves, and all windows are set in deep reveals. The central doorway is topped with a pediment hood supported by console brackets and has a semicircular overlight with radial glazing bars, accessed by stone steps.
To the left of the front wall, there is a segmental arch leading to the former stable courtyard, which adjoins the former stable coach house range that has a curved front corner and two Gothick windows. The rear elevation features large canted bay windows on each floor with cross-framed glazing. The garden is bordered by a fine stone wall and is terraced by the road.
