Description

The Ashford Tunnel South Portal, part of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, features a small round arched entrance made of rubble sandstone. It has deep voussoirs and a keystone, with end piers and flat coping but no parapet. At the entrance, the canal narrows to a single barge width. Inside the tunnel, there is no towpath, as boats were moved through the tunnel using shafts; however, a path continues along the top of the tunnel.
