Description
The stable block at Buckland Hall is a 19th-century structure that faces the stable wing of the coach house across the stable yard, creating an asymmetrical flanking of the northern entrance to the yard. It is built of coursed rubble with tooled stone dressings and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with overhanging eaves. The openings have cambered heads and voussoirs, including three multipane hoppers at the front, end doorways with stable doors and hopper overlights, and a boarded loft opening. Similar hoppers are found on the sides, and to the right, there are stone steps leading to a dormered loft entrance with a six-panelled door.
The rear wall is part of the stable court wall, made of rubble with pyramidal coping, extending at eaves height to form the western boundary wall, which curves southwest to create an entrance gateway made of rockfaced stone. This gateway features double basket arches, each with voussoirs, and metal fittings that were used for the former gates. The courtyard is paved and cobbled beneath later concrete, with some channelled stones and two circular stone rick stands. Some stall fittings remain, although the space is currently used for storage.
