Description
The Tennis Pavilion is an octagonal building constructed with pegged timber framing and rendered infill, set on a stone plinth, topped with a stone tiled roof. The roof features hipped gabled dormers with lead finials on the sides, a stone chimney at the rear, and deep overhanging sprocketed swept eaves. The windows are wooden framed, incorporating mullions and lattice glazing.
At the front, facing the park, there is a three-sided verandah accessed by four stone steps, featuring open timber framing with braces and a balustrade. Inside the verandah, the polygonal entrance bay runs parallel to the outer octagon and includes a central doorway made of four pegged timber panels with lattice glazing and trefoil heads above each light. On either side of the entrance are paired double-light timber-framed lattice windows, with additional double lights in the angled return. At the rear, there is a timber framed doorway with a planked door, and the side and rear windows consist of single, double, and triple lights.
The interior contains a large central octagonal room that is open to the roof and illuminated by the dormers. This room features a central Tudor-arched fireplace with a chimney breast facing the door. To the right and left are former male and female changing rooms, with a kitchen at the rear and an added bathroom. The flooring is parquet, and the ceiling beams have hollow mouldings.
