Description

The Ashford Tunnel North Portal is part of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and is constructed from sandstone rubble. It features a round arched entrance with a stone keystone and brick voussoirs. The parapet on the roadside is positioned closely against and partially overlaps the eastern side of the arch. The towpath does not extend through the tunnel, as boats were moved through by being shafted; there is a track that runs across the top of the tunnel.
