Description
The limekilns at Brynhyfryd are a significant structure made of dressed stone, standing over 6 meters high. On the left side, there is a blank retaining wall next to Glynderi house. In the center, there is a group of three arches that includes two kilns and a limestore to the right. The main bank features four kilns and a central limestore. The structure has eight roughly matching round arches, which are detailed with tooled voussoirs, quoins, imposts, and keystones. Above the right range, there is a projecting string course with joist-like holes. The limestore section has a blocked arch and a Gothick doorway. To the right, a coursed rubble wall curves outward and includes a deep stone well recess with voussoirs and a keystone above a small archway.
Inside, the kilns feature rubble draw hole vaults with draw eyes located in a corner. The kiln bowl descends onto the ends of the spine walls between the two vaults. Some draw eyes are fitted with iron lintels, while others have poke holes or are corbelled.
