Description

Low Bridge, also known as Canal Bridge No. 156, is a hump-back bridge made of rubble sandstone. It features a segmental arch with thin voussoirs and a low parapet that has flat coping. The abutments curve outward on both sides, and the parapet includes square end piers. On the eastern side, there is a cast iron plaque displaying the bridge number, which is cast in relief at the keystone position. The towpath runs under the bridge on the northern side and has a stone kerb, while on the southern side, there is a stringcourse that is roughly at water level. The bridge has a grass track deck and two posts that were once used for lozenge-shaped cast iron weight restriction signs.
