Description

Chilson Bridge, also known as Canal Bridge No. 146, is a hump-back bridge made of rubble sandstone. It features a segmental arch with thin voussoirs and a low parapet that has flat coping. The abutments curve outwards on both sides, and the parapet is finished with square end piers. On the eastern side, there is a cast iron plaque displaying the bridge number, which is cast in relief at the keystone position. The towpath runs beneath the bridge on the northern side and includes a stone kerb, while on the southern side, there is a stringcourse that is roughly at water level. The bridge also carries a drive to Gilestone and has a lozenge-shaped cast iron weight restriction sign.
