Description
Gilestone is a two-storey house with an attic, featuring a main building and two parallel cross wings, the left wing being the earlier of the two. The structure is made of stone rendered in roughcast, topped with a roof of tiles and slates, and has end stacks as well as a lateral stack on the right rear wing. The main facade has a three-window range of 8/8 cambered head sash windows on the first floor, although the left window has been altered. On the ground floor, there is a large similar window on the right and a later canted bay with a pitched roof and large pane horned sashes on the left. A central 20th-century porch conceals the front door. The downhill wing is taller than the other cross wing and features additional 6/6 pane sash windows and 3/6 pane hopper windows, all with cambered heads.
Inside, the house retains a central entry plan with a staircase that has stick balusters and a wreathed handrail. There are also six panelled doors with moulded surrounds and panelled reveals.
