Description

Llansantffraed House is a medium-sized country house that features an early Gothic Revival remodelling of a Georgian house, designed with a double pile plan. The exterior is made of rendered and colourwashed stone, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It has dressed stone ridge stacks with cornices and an axial stack at the rear.

The main front of the house consists of five bays, each with a gabled roof and overhanging eaves adorned with decorative bargeboards. The three central bays represent the remodelling of the earlier core and are narrower than the two outer bays, which project outward. The central range has 2/2 pane horned sash windows on the first floor and deep cross-framed windows on the ground floor, flanking a steep pitched gabled porch that features decorative bargeboards and an arched doorway. The side bays of the cross wings have cross-framed windows on both floors, with three lights above and four lights on the ground floor. The side elevation facing the drive has a similar central gable.

The rear elevation illustrates the building's history, with the central section retaining 6/6 and 8/8 pane sashes, some of which have been renewed, as well as a 9 pane hopper window. Inside, the house has been remodelled but retains some original features, including several six-panelled doors with moulded surrounds, some shutters, and later boarded dado panelling.
