Description
The Gwynne Holford Monument is a catafalque made of ashlar, featuring marble plaques set within a wide kerbed surround. It stands on a stone base with a deep moulded battered plinth. The chest of the monument has marble portrait roundels depicting busts in profile, bordered by a serpent clasping its own tail on the east and west faces. The primary inscription is located on the east face, with additional inscription plaques on the north and south sides. Above the chest is a triglyph frieze and an overhanging moulded cornice, with the soffit panelled in a disc design, and achievements at each end that terminate in deep scrolls. There is also an engraved stone crest from 1697, which is not fully legible but is presumably associated with the Holfords, leaning against the south face.
