Description

Fro is an estate cottage built in a minimal Tudor-Revival style. It features a main east-west range with an advanced wing to the left (west), creating an L-shaped plan, and a short cross-gable at the rear. The cottage is constructed from snecked rock-faced red-grey masonry with yellow limestone dressings, topped with tile roofs. There are three square masonry stacks with offsets and dressings; two eaves stacks on the north side and one on the west gable. Most windows are set under prominent relieving arches and have sandstone mullions, with large panes of iron-framed glass.

The main doorway is located on the south side, under a pointed arch, and contains a planked door with an overlight. Above the door is a three-light mullioned window, with a two-light mullioned window to its right on the lower storey. The south gable of the advanced wing has similar windows, with three-lights on the ground floor and two-lights above, along with a narrow opening at the gable apex. The east gable end mirrors this design, but the ground floor window has been replaced with a 20th-century casement. The west gable features single lights on both the lower and upper storeys, along with a narrow opening above.

At the rear, there is a planked door to the right with a square head, accessed by stone steps that rise from east to west, bordered on the north by iron railings. The north cross gable has a single light on the upper storey and the same on the west side. Behind the house is a linked outbuilding, functioning as a lean-to against the north boundary wall. This outbuilding is made from the same materials as the house, but its front wall is constructed in Flemish bond brickwork, featuring three planked doors and a 20th-century window.

No access to the interior was available at the time of inspection in July 1997.
