Description
The gatepiers and flanking ranges at Penpont date from the late 19th century and are situated at the entrance to a rear courtyard. The structure features two tall stone walls that meet at right angles to the drive, adorned with an impost string course and topped with tall sections that slope back in an ogee curve. To the north, there are narrow lean-to ranges that extend northward, covered with slate roofs. The northern ends of these lean-tos curve outward and have doors; the western door is framed with stone voussoirs, while the eastern door has a timber lintel. The rear of the eastern range is constructed of rubble stone and includes a window, a door, and another window to the left. Inside, there is a deep pit. The gatepiers frame a pair of detached cast-iron gate posts from the late 19th century, which support iron double gates.
