Description
Penpont Bridge is a Grade II* listed structure featuring four arches and constructed from rubble stone with cutwaters. The western side of the bridge has been widened and includes broad elliptical arches that meet the cutwaters, which are made of cut stone voussoirs. Above the arches, there is a raised band and a flat parapet with stone copings. The cutwaters on this side have been chamfered off below the string course.
On the eastern side, the bridge has recessed segmental arches with voussoirs and a keystone, along with three flat-topped cutwaters and one pedestrian refuge. Continuing from the western parapet, a wall rises that includes two doorways. The southern doorway features stone voussoirs leading to a cambered head and a panelled door. The northern doorway is notable for its well-crafted dressed stone surround, featuring an elliptical-arched doorway with a keystone and a pediment made of purple stone above. This doorway also has a panelled door with a cambered head.
