Description
This is a group of three headstones located in the churchyard to the southeast of the church of St Paulinus, dating from the early to mid-19th century. The headstones are decoratively carved in unusually deep relief and all feature shaped heads. The easternmost headstone is dedicated to Margaret Powell and depicts a winged angel in clouds, with the inscription set in a recessed oval surrounded by a band of narrow cable moulding. Among the two headstones to the west, the one dedicated to Ann Morgan is low and wide, illustrating a hand holding a chalice with sunbeams streaming through parted voluminous clouds. The southern headstone, dedicated to Thomas James, also features a winged angel in clouds, with an oval inscription panel and narrow cable mouldings on the sides.
