Description
The site contains a group of two chest tombs located in the churchyard to the southwest of St Paulinus Church. The eastern tomb is tall and tapers towards the top, featuring decorative corner details and inscription panels on the north and south sides; the northern panel is the earliest. A deep cornice sweeps up to a large urn finial. The tomb stands on four stone feet set upon a stone slab, and it is enclosed by a rectangular stone kerb. The western tomb is longer and rectangular, constructed of sandstone and marking the grave of Howell Powell and others. It has metal feet and inscriptions on three sides, with the southern side being the earliest. This tomb presents a simpler design, with raised bands at the corners and a narrow plinth, standing on a stone slab.
