Description

This listing describes a row of nine headstones located in the churchyard of the Church of St Peter, approximately 2.5 meters east of the base of the cross shaft. These headstones date from the mid to late 18th century and are made of limestone.

From left to right, the first headstone is dated 1772 and features a winged angel's head at the top. The second headstone, located behind a tree stump, is dated 1719 and has a segmental head. It includes a partially legible inscription, a moulded surround, and still-leafed foliate marginal panels, with a stylised winged cherub's head at the top, flanked by small standing cherubs leaning on trumpets.

The third headstone is dedicated to Ralph Bux--- and features foliate marginal panels in bold relief, along with a winged angel's head at the top. The final six headstones, one of which faces east, all have segmental heads and contain illegible inscriptions within cartouche-like surrounds, each topped with a single winged cherub's head.
