Description
This building, known as William Evans & Co, is an early to mid 19th century group of three-storey structures featuring two-window scribed stucco frontages. Nos 1 and 2 create a uniform appearance with a wide center, while No 3 includes a cill band. The roofs are slate, with bracket and panelled eaves on Nos 1 and 2, and boarded eaves on No 3. There is an eaves band on Nos 1 and 2.
The windows are recessed sash types, with 9 panes on the second floor and 12 panes on the first floor, featuring architraves on No 3. Decorative ironwork window box-holders on No 3 have barley twist cross bars. Nos 1 and 2 have overall shop fronts with a projecting cornice, while No 1 has a later splayed bay window flanked by plain pilasters. No 2 has a flush shop window, which was formerly bowed, also with plain pilasters. The central entrance has half-glazed doors with 3-pane fanlights, leading to a central cross passage accessed through iron gates. No 3 has a similar shop front with a splayed bay to the right, plain pilasters, and a half-glazed door with a 4-pane fanlight, along with an additional passage door to the left.
The gable end facing Beaufort Street is roughcast and features a chimney breast and a modern shop front, with the building having previously extended further into the street.
