Description
This is a group of three buildings dating from the early to mid-19th century, originally with stucco facades. Numbers 1 and 2 present a unified appearance with a symmetrical design, while Number 3 has a prominent sill band. The roofs are slate-covered, with bracketed and panelled eaves on numbers 1 and 2, and boarded eaves on number 3. A band runs along the eaves of numbers 1 and 2.
The buildings have recessed sash windows. The second floor windows have 9 panes, while the first floor windows have 12 panes. Number 3’s first-floor windows feature architraves. Decorative ironwork window box holders with barley twist cross bars are a distinctive feature of number 3.
Numbers 1 and 2 have shop fronts with projecting cornices. Number 1 features a later splayed bay window with plain pilasters, while number 2 has a flush shop window that was previously bowed and also has plain pilasters. Half-glazed doors with 3-pane fanlights provide access to a central passage, entered via iron gates. A similar shop front is found on number 3, featuring a splayed bay to the right, plain pilasters, a half-glazed door with a 4-pane fanlight, and a further passage door to the left.
The gable end facing Beaufort Street is roughcast and includes a chimney breast and a modern shop front; the building was formerly extended further into the street.
