Description

Violet Cottage is a house that forms part of an informal terrace, featuring three bays and two storeys. It has a slate gabled roof with red brick chimneys on both ends. The deep eaves are supported by narrow brackets. The facade is painted roughcast, with long and short quoins at either end. The windows are horned sashes with marginal glazing, and there are stone steps leading up to the central door, which has four vertical moulded panels and a rectangular overlight, set in a panelled reveal. The doorcase is adorned with panelled piers, large consoles, and a cornice decorated with triglyphs and roundels. The rear of the cottage is stuccoed and features 12-pane sashes on either side, along with a central stair light.

The property is complemented by railings with spearhead finials on a low wall made of squared stone with ashlar coping. There is a matching gate that includes a hooped strengthening bar and cast-iron gatepiers with square bosses at mid-height and octagonal finials. In front of the wall, there is a cobbled pavement, and within the gates, red and black quarry tiles are laid.

To the right, there is a single-storey extension that is now a shop. This extension has a slate gabled roof and features a 20th-century triple sash window and a door with an overlight. The interior of the cottage has not been inspected.
