Description

Pont Newydd is a 19th-century rubble stone road bridge featuring a single large elliptical arch made with cut-stone voussoirs and keystones. The spandrels are pierced by large weight-reducing circles, similar to those found at Dolauhirion. There is a projecting shelf that carries the parapet, which follows the hump of the bridge. The rubble stone parapets are topped with flat tooled stone coping, and the central capstone is dated 1822. The abutments at the southeast and northwest are splayed out on the arches to improve the approach lines.
