Abergwenlais outbuildings

Abergwenlais consists of a house, mill, and outbuildings, built from whitewashed rubble stone with slate roofs. The structure features three ranges arranged in a roughly L-shape. The two-storey house is located at the northern end, with the taller mill positioned at an angle to the left, and the outbuildings extending to the east.

The outbuildings are adjacent to a lean-to of the mill. The barn faces northeast and includes a single high door at the center with stone voussoirs, flanked by loops on each side and an additional door to the left, also with stone voussoirs. This barn connects to a short return range that faces northwest and appears to have been constructed first, as indicated by its rounded northwest corner. There is one loft light under the eaves, a door on the ground floor to the left, and a loop in the angle to the right. The rear of the barn is plain and features an outshut, with one door and stone voussoirs to the left.

Inside the mill, the ground floor is supported by three heavy beams, while the first floor has pine beams. The roof features impressive arch-braced collar trusses with diagonal struts above the collar, secured with bolted joints. A massive timber horizontal shaft for a hoist is present in the roof. The barn has a later 19th-century roof with stapled collars, spanning four bays.
