Description
The Close is a house dating from the 18th century, featuring painted roughcast walls and slate roofs. It has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall with a front range that has three windows. The front range displays flat eaves supported by paired brackets, yellow brick stacks at the ends, and stucco angle quoins. The first-floor windows are framed with eared stucco surrounds and have marginal glazing bars, with a thin sill course below. On the ground floor, there are two later 19th-century timber bay windows, each topped with bell-cast slate roofs, moulded cornices with brackets and dentils, and fluted pilasters. The sashes have shaped heads on the top panes. The central door, dating from the 20th century, is set in an eared surround. The gable ends feature overhanging verges with brackets.
The northwest rear wing has timber casements on the east side that were renewed in the 20th century, replacing earlier sashes. The first floor includes a long stair light to the left, followed by a small window and two paired casements. The ground floor has a small window beneath the stair light to the left, along with three paired casements, the center one possibly being a former door. There is a small red brick stack at the end and an added lean-to on the end wall. The west side of the rear wing is constructed of painted rubble stone. Additionally, there is a single-storey outbuilding attached to the west end of the north lean-to, made of rubble stone with a brick stack on the west side. The property has not been inspected.
