Description

Middleham House is a house dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a roughcast rubble exterior and a stone slate roof. The building has a complex plan with a three-storey, five-bay main block and later additions.

On the ground floor, the right side has rusticated quoins, and there is a central sandstone ashlar portico supported by two Greek Doric columns. To the left, there is a 16-pane sash window in a plain ashlar surround, and to the right, two sash windows with altered glazing in moulded ashlar surrounds.

The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars in plain ashlar surrounds in the first and second bays, while the third, fourth, and fifth bays feature sash windows with glazing bars in moulded ashlar surrounds. The second floor has taller sash windows with glazing bars in plain ashlar surrounds. The left side has a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping, with stacks located between the second and third bays and at the right end.

To the left, there is a slightly projecting two-storey range from the early to mid-19th century, which also has rusticated quoins. Each floor features a plate-glass Venetian window in a moulded surround, with inner Doric columns. The range has a hipped roof with an end stack on the left.
