Description
The Central Stores and awning is a house and shop located on the north side of Swine Market in Middleham, dating from the mid to late 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and features cast iron elements. It has two storeys and three bays, with quoins on the corners.
On the ground floor, there is a central 20th-century glazed shop door flanked by two late 19th-century cast-iron shop windows, each consisting of four round-headed lights. To the right, there is a part-glazed door. The first floor contains four-pane sash windows. The building has a shaped kneeler, ashlar coping, and an end stack on the right side.
In front of the shop, there is a late 19th-century glazed cast-iron awning supported by four fluted columns with tulip capitals. The awning features a fascia with Art Nouveau decoration, which is topped with cresting, part of which was missing at the time of the last survey. The building is included for its group value.
