Description
Glasgow House and gate piers is a house with gate-piers dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with sandstone ashlar dressings and has a stone slate roof. The house is three storeys tall and features a rear outshut, with three first-floor windows. The corners are marked by rusticated quoins, and the openings have ashlar surrounds. Between the first and second bays, there is a plain doorway that has been converted into a window. The house has sash windows with glazing bars, shaped kneelers, ashlar copings, and end stacks.
The entrance is located in the left return outshut and consists of a four-panel door beneath a fanlight with decorative glazing bars, all within a round-arched moulded ashlar surround that includes imposts and a fluted keystone. Adjacent to the doorway is a stone inscription erected by R Rodes Milner Esq to commemorate James Croft, who trained the first four racehorses in the 1822 St Leger Stakes. To the left of the house, there are rusticated ashlar gate-piers on plinths, topped with plain cornices and ball finials.
