Description
Hill House East includes gate-piers and railings, dating from the mid-18th century. The building is constructed of roughcast rubble with ashlar detailing and features a stone slate roof along with cast-iron railings. The house itself is two storeys high, with three bays and a rear wing. In the third bay, there is a door made up of six fielded panels and an overlight with decorative glazing bars, all set within a doorcase that has Tuscan pilasters and an entablature. The windows are four-pane sashes framed by ashlar surrounds. There are chimney stacks located between the second and third bays and at the right end of the building. To the right of the house, there are rusticated ashlar gate-piers that have plinths, cornices, and depressed pyramidal caps. In front of the house, there is a low rubble wall topped with saddleback ashlar coping, and the railings feature staggered fleurs-de-lis finials and urn finials on the standards.
