Description
The War Memorial is a Grade II listed structure made of grey granite. It takes the form of a tall classical stele or pedestal type memorial, featuring a moulded cornice and a shallow gabled gap adorned with neo-Grec anthemion ornament at the front. The front of the main shaft displays a small raised plaque at the top that reads 'Our Glorious Dead', along with a long raised plaque listing the names of the fallen, which has a lower edge that curves over a high-relief carved wreath. The sides of the memorial are decorated with raised channelled pilasters that terminate at caps just below the cornice level. The plinth has rebated angles, with the sides featuring coved bases on bull-nose mouldings that correspond to the pilasters. The front also includes an inscribed plaque that states 'Lest we forget...'. The memorial is set on a stepped base consisting of three concrete steps.
