Description
The War Memorial is a Grade II listed structure made of silver granite. It features an obelisk that tapers from a square base to an octagonal tip, with a relief sword carved on the front. This obelisk is set on a plinth with a curved profile cap, which is supported by detached column shafts at each corner and a raised base. The entire structure is elevated on a large square pedestal that has sunk square panels on each side and a plinth with coved moulding. The base is circular and made of Portland stone. The front of the memorial displays bronze plaques with raised letters surrounded by laurel-leaf designs, including a large plaque listing names on the pedestal and a smaller commemorative plaque on the plinth above. The right side features similar plaques honoring those who died in the 1939-1945 war.
