Description
The Old Tollhouse is a former tollhouse, dating to the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with tooled stone dressings, and has a close-eaved slate gabled roof, originally featuring end bargeboards and finials. A central axial ridge chimney rises from the roof, featuring three rendered octagonal shafts set upon a stone plinth. The front elevation has quoins and chamfered surrounds to the openings. There are square-headed two-light timber windows on either side of a Tudor-arched doorway with a keystone. A 20th-century ledged door fills the doorway, and the windows are 19th-century examples with single slab lintels and stone sills. The central gable originally had bargeboards and a finial, and features a blank roundel inscribed "Western District Ynysderw Gate" above and below. Rendered, windowless end walls are located to the east of the doorway. The building was not inspected.
