Description

Ravenscourt, located at No 58 New Road, is a semi-detached pair of villas built around 1830-1840. The buildings are constructed of stucco with painted stone dressings and feature slate or imitation slate roofs behind parapets. They are designed as a mirrored pair, each with a two-window center and slightly advanced, bowed one-window sides. There are modern extensions at the rear.

The center of the villas has a deep parapet with a simple pediment applied to the right half of No 58, while No 60 does not have this feature. No 58 has two first-floor sash windows, which have been modernized with plastic glazing, while No 60 retains its original marginal glazing bars. Both have a broad sill band, with the upper part raised. The ground floor features full-length windows, with No 60 maintaining its original marginal glazing, while No 58 has plastic replacements.

The wings of the villas are slightly lower and have a broad curved projection. No 58 features a dentilled cornice and similar first-floor sash windows, with plastic glazing in No 58. The sill band continues across both wings, and No 60 has a similar full-length ground floor window. The door of No 58 is topped with a segmental hood on brackets, dating from around 1900.

No 58 has a two-window range to the right with a first-floor sill band, but it has been significantly modernized and has a hipped concrete tile roof. No 60 includes a two-storey extension to the left from around 1900, featuring a half-timbered gable on the left bay. The garden wall of No 60 is made of low rubble stone, while No 58 has a rendered wall.
