Description

Number 43, along with the gates and railings to the forecourt, is part of a row of houses numbered 41 to 47 on the west side of New Road. These houses date from the 19th century and are built from brown snecked rubble stone with slate roofs, although numbers 43, 45, and 47 have had their roofs replaced with concrete tiles. The roofs are slightly stepped between numbers 43 and 45, and between 45 and 47. Each house has two or more storeys and features a two-window range.

In the left bay of number 43, there is a five-panel door with an overlight set within a fine painted timber Roman Doric doorcase, which includes fluted columns, a triglyph frieze, and a cornice. Above the door, there is a plate-glass cambered-headed sash window framed in Bath stone with a flush surround, a cambered drip mould, and a carved keystone. To the right, there is a large two-storey painted timber canted bay window with slightly cambered heads on large plate glass sashes, which feature matching Doric friezes on each floor and slim column angle shafts. The upper window has a low-pitched leaded roof, and there is a similar leaded skirt between the lower cornice and the upper sill. Above the bay window, there is an eaves-breaking stone gable with fretted bargeboards, ashlar quoins, and a smaller cambered-headed sash window in an ashlar surround with a drip mould and keystone.

The front gardens are enclosed by dwarf rubble walls topped with cast-iron railings that have an intersecting oval pattern typical of Llanelli, along with iron gateposts and matching gates.
