Description

This building, known as 47 including Gates and Railings to Forecourt, is part of a row of houses numbered 41-47 on the west side of New Road. It dates from the 19th century and features brown snecked rubble stone with slate roofs, although Nos 43, 45, and 47 have had their roofs replaced with concrete tiles. The roofs are slightly stepped between Nos 43 and 45 and between Nos 45 and 47. Each house has two or more storeys and a two-window range.

The left bay of the building has a five-panel door with an overlight, set within a finely painted timber Roman Doric doorcase that includes fluted columns, a triglyph frieze, and a cornice. Above the door is a plate-glass cambered-headed sash window in a Bath stone flush surround, featuring a cambered dripmould and a carved keystone. To the right, there is a large two-storey painted timber canted bay window with slightly cambered heads on large plate glass sashes. This bay has matching Doric friezes on each floor and slim column angle shafts. The upper window has a low pitched leaded roof, and there is a similar leaded skirt between the lower cornice and the upper sill. Above the bay, there is an eaves-breaking stone gable with fretted bargeboards, ashlar quoins, and a smaller cambered-headed sash window in an ashlar surround, complete with a dripmould and keystone.

The front gardens are enclosed by dwarf rubble walls topped with cast-iron rails featuring an intersecting oval pattern typical of Llanelli, along with iron gateposts and matching gates.
