Description
2 Piccadilly Square is part of a mirrored row of four terraced Victorian estate cottages, built with minimal Gothic detail. The cottages are constructed from rubble stone with brick dressings, featuring a slate eaves roof and crested ridge tiles, along with four red brick chimneys. Each house has two storeys and two bays. The design includes a pair of timber casement windows above the door under the eaves, and a three-light mullion-and-transom window in the other bay on each floor. The ground floor window is set in a rendered rusticated surround with a hoodmould, while the upper window has a timber lintel that breaks the eaves beneath a shallow gable adorned with plain bargeboards and a red terracotta finial.
In this mirrored terrace, Nos 1 and 2 have their doors located in the right bay, while Nos 3 and 4 have theirs in the left bay. Each door is sheltered by a slate pent hood supported by carved diagonal brackets, which feature Gothic cusping in the triangle above. All openings, except for the main ground floor window, have red brick jambs. The gable ends display overhanging verges.
Since the late 20th century, two of the houses in the terrace have undergone significant alterations. Number 2 has a rendered front wall, with all windows replaced and the door hood modified, featuring blockwork rendered sides.
