Description
1-4 Piccadilly Square are a row of four terraced houses built in the Victorian style, featuring minimal Gothic details. Constructed from rubble stone with brick dressings, they have slate roofs with crested ridge tiles and four red brick chimneys. Each house is two storeys high and has two bays. Above the door, there is a pair of timber casement windows under the eaves, while each house features a 3-light mullion-and-transom window in the other bay. The ground floor window has a rendered rusticated surround with a hoodmould, and the upper window is topped with a timber lintel that breaks the eaves beneath a shallow gable, which has plain bargeboards and a red terracotta finial.
In this mirrored terrace, Nos 1 and 2 have their doors in the right bay, while Nos 3 and 4 have theirs in the left bay. Each door is sheltered by a slate pent hood supported by carved diagonal brackets, which feature Gothic cusping in the triangle above. The openings have red brick jambs, except for the main ground floor window. The gable ends have overhanging verges.
Since the late 20th century, two of the houses have undergone significant alterations. No 1 has a rendered left end wall, and all its windows and the door have been replaced. The property has not been inspected.
