Description

This is a terrace of four houses located on Heywoods Close, built in the mid-19th century. The houses are rendered and feature slate roofs with rendered stacks at the gable ends and party walls. They are designed in the Tudor Gothic style and have double-depth plans.

The exterior consists of three storeys, with each house having a two-window range. There are four forward-facing gables with decorative fretted bargeboards. The inner bays, which are stepped forward, have larger gables that extend from the ridge. The second floor features cross-windows with label moulds, while the first floor of the inner bays has corbelled-out canted oriel windows with hipped roofs and fretted fascias. The outer gabled bays are full-height and rectangular, showcasing three-light mullioned and transomed windows on the lower floors, with hoodmoulds over the ground floor windows.

The entrances to Nos. 1 and 4 are located to the inside left and right, respectively, while Nos. 2 and 3 have paired doors at the centre. All houses have porches with lean-to slate roofs and fretted fascias, and above the doors are single-light windows. The rear of the houses features mostly 19th-century one and two-light windows with glazing bars, along with stair lobbies that have pitched roofs extending up to the first floor.

The interiors have not been inspected but are noted to have panelled shutters. This terrace presents an unusual treatment for houses in this architectural style.
