Description

This is a terrace of eight houses located at 6-20 Ashgate Road, Sheffield, built around 1850 and altered in the late 20th century. The houses are constructed of brick with stucco dressings, and have a hipped slate roof punctuated by seven party wall stacks. They feature a plinth, bracketed sills, and deep eaves. The symmetrical facade has a 24-window range, organized as a 1:2:1:2:1:2:1:4:1:2:1:2:1:2:1 pattern. The first-floor windows are 12-pane sashes with segment-headed moulded surrounds. Ground-floor windows are also 12-pane sashes, while those on the third floor are 9-pane sashes, all with moulded surrounds. A central section has four windows. Four projecting entrance bays are evenly spaced, each with a pedimented first-floor window and a pilastered doorcase incorporating an overlight and cornice. Between these bays are two windows on each floor. The third house from the right lacks the moulded details of its windows and doorway. The interior was not inspected as part of the listing process. The terrace has group value, contributing to the streetscape.
