Description
The Mount is a terrace of eight houses, now used as offices, built around 1830 and altered around 1970. It was designed by William Flockton and constructed from ashlar. The roof is not visible, but there are three rendered ridge stacks. The building is in the Classical Revival style and features a plinth, a ground floor lintel band, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course.
The structure has three storeys and a total of 17 windows. Most of the windows are 12-pane sashes, with alternate ground floor windows featuring pediments and alternate first floor windows having cornices. The central portico is flanked by wings and end pavilions, with the portico itself supported by six giant Ionic columns. Under the portico, there are five windows, with the central ones on each floor being blank. On either side of the portico, there is a range of five windows, with the second floor windows being 6-pane sashes. The end pavilions also have two giant Ionic columns in antis, corner pilasters, and additional corniced parapets, with each pavilion featuring a large tripartite glazing bar sash on each floor. The returns have a projecting centre with three windows, the central window being corniced, and above that, there are three smaller windows. The central doorcase has Doric columns and now contains a 12-pane sash. The rear elevation has irregular fenestration with glazing bar sashes.
Inside, the refitted interior includes an entrance hall with a cross beam ceiling and a plain stone fireplace with a hob grate.
