Description
4 High Street is a three-storey house and shop dating from the 19th century. The building features a slate roof that slopes at a shallow angle to a half-hip at the right end, which has a black brick chimney stack. The front is constructed of red brick and includes large tripartite plate-glass sash windows on both upper floors, with slightly cambered red brick heads. The upper windows are shorter than those on the ground floor.
The ground floor has a full-width shop front with a deep fascia and cornice. There are plate glass shop windows on each side of a recessed entry, consisting of two plate glass panes supported by slim rounded timber columns, although some of these columns have been removed. At the right end of the shop front is a large curved plate glass pane. The entry features brass sills and boarding beneath, with a mosaic floor panel that reads 'Bon Marche'. The glazed door has decorative glazing bars, including a shield panel in bevelled glass, a scrolled head, and an overlight above. On the left side of the shop front, there is a brick pier and a very large stucco scrolled console bracket that abuts the end of the broad fascia.
The ground floor also contains a cafe interior.
