Description

1 Stone Street is a corner house that stands two storeys tall, featuring three bays on the front and three on Water Street. It has a steep-pitched slate roof that is hipped at the corner, and an external chimney made of stone and brick located at the eastern end of Water Street. The building has deep eaves and is finished in painted stucco with a painted stone plinth.

The front of the house includes three mid-20th century metal casement windows situated above two projecting timber shopfronts, which originated in the 19th century but were altered in the 20th century to feature an almost flat roof. The right shopfront has recessed central doors and plate glass windows framed in mid-20th century bronzed metal. There is a square chamfered 19th-century pier to the right. On the left side, there is a small 19th-century shop window that is canted to the left of the recess, accompanied by two doors, with the recess supported by a chamfered timber pier.

The return to Water Street displays three irregular window bays that are offset to the right. The first floor has a metal window to the left, similar to those on the front, and two 12-pane hornless sash windows to the right, which are grouped above a 20th-century window and a door. A larger 20th-century window in a bronzed metal frame is located on the ground floor to the left of the window above.

The ground floor has been opened up for use as a shop, featuring several large squared oak beams that run both from front to back and side to side. The upper floors and roof have not been inspected.
