Description

12 Quay Street is an end-terrace house dating from the 18th century. It features unpainted roughcast walls and a slate roof with close eaves, which has been altered with a 20th-century raised eaves band and a stuccoed stack on the right side. The house is two stories tall and has a three-window range with a cellar. It is a mirrored pair with No 11, meaning the inner bay has paired doors and paired windows above. The original plate-glass sash windows have been replaced with 20th-century uPVC windows, and the sills have been altered. There are three windows above and two below, positioned to the center and right, with a door located at the extreme left. Small cellar openings are found beneath the windows.

Access to the house is via two steps leading up to a 20th-century uPVC door, which is set within the original common doorcase shared with No 11. This doorcase features pilasters and a flat moulded hood supported by shaped brackets. Inside, there is an 18th-century closed string staircase with square newels, turned column balusters, and a wide moulded rail, arranged in four flights. All the doors inside have been replaced.
